Hunger Games Blog Post Questions

**Note when citing quotes in answers: “And here in the Capital they’re vomiting for the pleasure of filling their bellies again and again” (Collins 81).




Part One:

The Hunger Games

Part A Reflection/Discussion (each answer should be at least one well developed paragraph):

1. Explain how The Hunger Games is a dystopian novel. Using quotes from the novel explain the type(s) of dystopia seen in the novel. Consider the characteristics of a dystopian novel.

2. Which district would provide the highest quality of life for a family? Why? Consider safety, entertainment, comfort, job security, freedom, etc.

3. Make a prediction. What do you think it was that Gale wanted Katniss to remember. ("Katniss, remember, I...."). Why do you think this? Give evidence from the text to support your inference.

Part B Introspection:

Choose two (only two) quotations and write your insights, thoughts, comments, feelings, predictions and/or connections.  Each quotation's reflection should be 8-10 sentences.  Please separate reflections by separate paragraphs.

Part C Characterisation:

Create a blog post and include the following characters:

A) Katniss
B) Peeta
C) Haymitch

and one of the following:

D) Mrs. Everdeen
E) Gale
F) Prim
G) Effie Trinket
H) Cinna

Throughout the course of the novel, you will add to the information we learn about this character. You will report on this character four times (Part One; 9-18; 19-27). Keep on top of your writing as we finish chunks of chapters or it will be A LOT of work to complete at the very end.

You must remember the four methods of characterization (from your short story note) at all times. You should include all four aspects throughout your updates. You need proof (quotes with page numbers) to support aspects of your character's personality!

Do NOT publish until the very end! Save as a draft each time you update. If you publish, everyone can see your work!

3. How did Katniss’s participation in the Games change her relationship with Gale? Why does she say, “The Games have spoiled even that…There’s no going back.”
